Think being on page #1 of Google is impossible and requires investing $25k? Think again.
Sure, if you’re a huge bank or a multinational with heaps of competition then yes ~ competing against other giant multinationals with deep pockets will only get harder as everyone tries to outspend their competitors.
But small businesses? It’s actually easy once you know what you’re doing, especially if you are in a super small, specific niche.
Whenever a small business asks me if I can do SEO for them, I always turn them down. Or rather, encourage them to DIY before they pay someone for what’s might be overcomplicating it…
Let’s take a step back and make sure we’re all on the same page here.
Organic traffic is traffic from search engines. Google. Bing. DuckDuckGo. Any other “search” bar. You can see how much traffic is organic by looking at your Google Analytics dashboard.
It comes from a mix of people searching for your BRAND NAME as well as people searching for your PRODUCTS or CATEGORY. Although BRAND NAME traffic falls under “branded search” for us nerds, and it doesn’t really count ~ who cares about ranking 1st for “Juicy Pickles” other than me, anyway?!
So, now that you know what organic traffic is, let’s take it a step forward. One – Two.
How much organic traffic your site gets depends 80% on its content.
“But what about link building”
“And what about PR?”
“Why are you not talking about Reddit?!?!”
Because.
Because when you’re a business built around a specific product or service, operating in one city, region or small country… your priorities are different.
And lucky for you, I bet your competitors aren’t reading my blog right now.
So, there. Why I love helping small businesses is also this:
It’s much easier to beat your competitors when they’re a lot less digital-marketing-savvy than you.
And here are more good reasons why organic traffic is the best:
- It’s free
- It works even if you have 7 followers on Instagram
- It keeps coming every day
- It brings you customers/leads while you sleep
- It requires very little ongoing work
- It establishes your credibility
- It builds brand awareness (for free)
- It’s fairly easy to grow
Every morning I wake up, and my mission is to inspire business owners to do their own digital marketing. I tell people this every day. When i do, everyone stares at me as if I just mentioned Hitler in an argument. Then, I start sharing pragmatic easy to implement tips…. and that horrified glare slowly melts into a knowing smile.
Now, seeing that smile is what keeps me going.
