Best of video repurposing tools: Piktostory

Content repurposing is one of those amazing things in theory that everyone finds slightly annoying. Yes, we agree it’s the smart thing to do. Yes, we know sharing video content can boost our reputation, brand awareness and traffic. Yes, we know it’s what eeeeeverybody should do.

But is it easy to do?

Does anyone ever have time to sit through old videos and export the juicy bits?

Nope.

At least – not until now.

I started using Piktostory in June 2021 and for the first time in years I’m actually repurposing my own content. Incredible!

What is Piktostory?

Piktostory is a web app that automatically adds subtitles to your videos (in 30+ languages!) and allows you to export perfectly sized social media clips in seconds – instead of hours. The fact that it’s a web app means that it looks just like a website and you don’t need to download another software! Which is always a big plus.

The brilliant team of Piktochart is behind this clever product! I’ve had the pleasure of meeting them in 2016 in their office in Penang, and it’s great to see a different tech company succeed. They’re very anti-hustle, keep to a 4-day week, have never raised money and are generally awesome people.

Who can Piktostory benefit the most?

This app is perfect for speakers, coaches, trainers, consultants like me who don’t have a big team handling their social media. Although, anyone that needs to turn webinars, Zoom recordings or virtual events into shorter videos will benefit from using this instead of any other general video editors.

For context, creating a one minute clip with iMovie would take me between 30-60 minutes. And I’m quite tech-savvy. With Piktostory, the whole process takes me 4 minutes. And that includes sharing to social media!

For only $9/month I can upload up to 3 hours of videos that can be repurposed into dozens of short social media clips. This is a crazy good deal, especially considering how fast it is to create clips – and how much it would cost me to hire a video editor (+ managing the relationship, waiting for the videos to be done, sending feedback, etc etc etc).

Here’s a live screencast video of me turning a 20 minutes YouTube clip from Lucy Walker Jewellery into 10+ social media clips.

What’s the pricing like?

The pricing of Piktostory is very fair. It’s based on the minutes of videos uploaded, which makes sense considering storage space is expensive! There are currently three plans available:

  • Lite: $9/month – 180 minutes
  • Pro: $29/month – 900 minutes
  • Ultimate: $49/month – 2400 minutes

I am using the Lite plan as it’s more than enough capacity to repurpose mine and my clients’ videos.

What do the final Piktostory clips look like?

Here’s one I created recently:
